Press Release
Espace les neuf sœurs is proud to invite you to the opening of an exhibit highlighting the work of Haiti’s master artisans entitled “HAITI: MAKING THE MAGIC WORK,” on Friday, September 24th, from 5:30 to 10 pm. The exhibit, which lasts until October 9th, will showcase over fifty pieces, including intricate metal sculptures made from recycled oil drums, dazzling beaded and sequined banners from the Vodou tradition, paintings of historical and contemporary socio-political scenes, and photographs that present new perspectives on this this vibrant nation.
In addition to the opening event, guided visits will be available on Saturday and Sunday, September 25th and 26th, at 1 pm (French) and 2 pm (English). All events are free.
All proceeds from the sale of pieces will benefit the Lambi Fund, a well-established and respected non-profit organization that supports rural cooperatives and entrepreneurial projects throughout Haiti. www.lambifund.org
The exhibit is the result of a collaboration between Pierre Minn, a medical anthropologist who has carried out extensive research on health and humanitarianism in Haiti since 1997, and architect Pieter Sijpkes, the director of Espace les neuf sœurs, who had long hoped to host an exhibit of artworks from Haiti.
The gallery is open on Saturdays and Sundays from 11 am to 3 pm. To schedule a visit at another time, please contact the exhibit’s organizers.
Espace les neuf sœurs is located in Pointe Saint-Charles, 1900 Wellington St. (a 10-minute walk from the Charlevoix metro station, or the 61 bus from McGill or LaSalle metro stations).
